Man shoots himself in seaford siege


An 11-year-old boy was shot by a gunman while he slept in his bedroom.

It is understood the boy, who was not named, was playing outside in Southampton at 2.40am when he was shot in the neck.

He was taken to the Royal Southampton Infirmary in hospital for treatment but, at 7.30am the police announced there had been a death in the area.


Officers said their investigation had revealed the man who shot the boy was known to local residents and he had been arrested in a firearms investigation earlier in the day.


The boy's father, who had gone to the seaside with his son to play football, later told local residents he had been sitting on a bed with the boy when the shooting occurred.

He said: 'I think he was there in his bedroom and all of a sudden the gun went off and there was a bang and then the gun went off again.

'There was a big bang, that's it. There's no noise; no shooting.'

Mr Mabrouk, 29, who works in a local paper company, told the Standard that the boy, who is from the West Midlands, had played football at a nearby park. He did not know where he had come from.


Speaking after the shooting, he said: 'I've just got to go and see the boy. My children were sleeping in the room. I'm the one sitting here. All I know is the kid's been hit.


'It's a strange feeling. I've had such a long day and I thought it was the wind blowing in.'


He added: 'The guy shot the kid and he shot his son. The boys are 11 and they played on the swings. I've got three in the park, so my wife is pretty sure my son was in the other one.


'We were up for a stroll when the shooting happened. My son is out to get his socks, which are on his feet and his pants, which are on the floor so I think that's the trigger.


'When I left the house they said he got shot - I'm so angry. If I could ask him something to get him to stop, he'd say'stop shooting' - so I said'stop shooting' and then he stopped shooting and got his socks on.'


In a statement, the Met's Operation Woggle said: 'The incident has taken place in Eastleigh, South London in response to a shooting by 11 year old boy in the early hours of today.
