Five people injured including elderly woman in dog attack on railway tracks - police

Seven people were arrested after a dog and a backpack were attacked by a mob at the railway tracks in the eastern Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois.

The dogs attacked two girls - aged 13 and 14 - after one of them fell under the influence of beer during a party in the St. Jean-Talon area of the capital.

A second girl was hit in the head by the backpack.

The suspects, later identified as French national Dimitri Mignone, 23, and Moroccan nationals Said Belkacemi, 31 and Mohamed Sallouche, 26, escaped when police arrived.

All three of them had been previously arrested in connection with the attack last year, which left 13 dead and over 100 injured.

The three had originally been charged with attempted murder in relation to the attack but were cleared.

In addition to attacking the girls, the men allegedly attacked two taxi drivers and one car cleaner and attempted to run a dog over.

It is the first case of its kind in France.

They were arrested after fleeing the scene.

Police seek information on sydney shooting

Updated

Three people are on the run and the Crime Commission is urging anyone who may have seen a man who fired shots at an unsuspecting Sydney train carriage to come forward.

The attack occurred last night at 11:47am. Police are looking for a man wearing a white long sleeved jumper and red jacket.

Police said they have secured some CCTV footage from CCTV cameras around the train and are keen for anyone with information to contact Crime Commissioner Andrew Scipione.

The man had a gun in his hand.

"The man has a firearm on him," Acting Commissioner Stuart Chapman said.

"He was walking near one of the CCTV cameras that we have on site."

Two of the two people shot were not injured.

A 27-year-old woman from Sydney had to be airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where her leg was fractured.

She later underwent surgery, but will not be re-hospitalised for at least another two weeks.

Two people in their 50s were arrested and two women are being questioned at the scene.

The young man has a lengthy criminal history, and police are keen to speak to him.

"We don't want people who are going to commit similar crimes to think like this, it's not like that," Detective Commissioner Chris Hopkins said.
