Queensland towns on flood watch

The City of Brisbane is monitoring flood conditions in South Brisbane and several towns, including Burmiston and Sandringham, on flood watch, the city said.

Brisbane City Council said the city expected to monitor a flood watch from about 11am Thursday until 8pm Friday.

About 200 homes were affected in South Brisbane.

Brisbane Fire Service had not responded to a call about two homes submerged but was now working with the Queensland Rural Fire Service and its fire service counterpart in Darwin.

One resident in Sandringham told ABC Radio Melbourne's Alan Jones this evening's rain was so bad it had soaked the driveway in the driveway.

There were no reports of injuries, damage or deaths in any of the flooded areas.

The state government has been on flood watch since Monday.

Tasmania Emergency Services tweeted the state government was evacuating more than 7,000 homes after heavy rain caused by Tropical Cyclone Debbie struck the state on Monday.

"There are some areas... not yet impacted by the storm," the state Department of Emergency Services said.

The state government has also issued mandatory evacuations for residents of Brisbane and South Brisbane.

Sa to press on with renewable energy.

A senior executive of the state-owned Cengizkoyal Energy said Cengizkoyal has installed 200,000 MW of wind and solar in the past six years, of which 50,000 MW was for a 1-Gp renewable energy target for its state energy service. The utility plans to install 1 GW of solar for wind power capacity by year-end and 100 MW of solar for wind power capacity by the end of this year.

But Cengizkoyal said, as electricity demand had stabilised since April, it was not ready to discuss its strategy for renewable energy. Its strategy focuses on getting about 20 GW of power capacity on board by 2020, and to be on schedule by 2018.
